Kerosene - Home Heating Oil

Kerosene is a light fuel oil that is used as a heating oil in many homes and staying on top of your fuel needs means you can stay in control of your budget and ensure that you don’t get cold. If you have an oil tank on your property, you’ll know that it’s important to order your oil in good time so that you do not run out, and here at West Cork Oil, we are on hand to help. We can schedule deliveries to suit you and we even offer an emergency delivery service if needed, so you can be sure that we’re on side to keep you warm all year round.

Kerosene is also known as home heating oil or domestic heating oil, and it offers an affordable fuel solution that gives a cleaner and more efficient burn than diesel and performs well in cold weather. We offer budget plans to help you plan your fuel payments and ensure that you aren’t left without fuel when you need it most. With rising fuel costs across the globe, this can be a serious concern and it can help to plan and make the most of your resources to buy the fuel you need at the best time. Prices vary throughout the year due to fluctuations in the oil industry and world events, and a pricing plan can help to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Kerosene is made by separating the compounds of crude oil in a process known as fractional distillation. It was discovered in 1846 by geologist Abraham Gesner, who gave a public demonstration of the way he could distil it from coal to create an ideal fuel for lamps. This was an exciting discovery but was a very expensive process at the time, so he experimented with using albertite instead of coal, which could make it much more cost-effective. It took many years for Gesner to gain enough financial support to commercialise the process, but he pursued it relentlessly and eventually created the North American Gas Light Company in partnership with his financial backers.

Kerosene is a clear, thin oil that is used in millions of homes in Ireland and the UK today, and it was originally introduced to replace whale oil, which was being used to heat homes before this. Kerosene proved to be a safer, cleaner choice that also has low carbon monoxide emissions. It’s a highly efficient fuel, which releases more heat per unit volume than other fuels, such as gas or electricity and it is a lower-cost option for heating your home. As well as home heating, kerosene is also used as jet engine fuel, as well as being used by fire entertainers to fuel their acts in the safest way possible, as it has the ideal combination of a high flash point and a low fire temperature.
